DIY Holiday Garland

I love the mood a new season brings; a sigh of hope that change is okay and necessary, adventure sometimes, and traditions because knowing that at least part of the season will be safe, fun, and predictable. And weather. Change in weather (see ya 105+ temps!).

With each little change, I get a batch of new ideas. Most of all, I love the change of seasons because they usher in inspiration.

For me, I think another great source of inspiration is books. I love to walk a bookstore or library, research books for my To-Be-Read pile (that may never get read), chat about books with friends, and of course read.

Confession: I once tore up a book.

I still can’t believe I did that. In my defense, I looked for an inexpensive paperback at Half Price Books which there were plenty of. I chose Dracula. I still have remnants and I won’t use it. It’s nutty, I know. I blame my training; an Elementary teacher at heart here.

You’ll be happy to know I’ve changed my ways. I found printed paper that looks like pages of a book! Oh, it’s the best.

So back to seasons and books. A few years ago I created some Halloween decorations for our mantle that I adore to this day. It was inspired by my Father-in-Law’s drawing and my daughter’s love of the holiday. Bonus, she helped create it and she was 4 at the time.

Each year I add something to it and I loved how easy this one was that I created other ways to use the template and then made more for other holidays.
