The ‘57 Cadillac Margarita
This drink is my husband’s twist on a classic and it’s a go-to on a Taco Tuesday, sunny day, sitting by the pool, or when you want to taste good tequila in a simple margarita.
What makes it a “Cadillac”?
The ingredients. You are absolutely welcome to use anything; budget will of course come into play. However, the “Cadillac car” used to be seen as a premium car so this margarita uses premium ingredients.
More on which tequilas to use in a bit!
Where does the ‘57 come in?
The “‘57” is my husband’s addition to the Cadillac; mezcal. Just a splash before you serve it and it gives it a wonderful hint of smokiness.
Something You Should Know…
My husband believes there are sipping tequilas… I still haven’t grown up and don’t see this to be true. But if you’re interested, here are his favorite…
(And he wants you to know you should NEVER make a margarita with these.)
Sippers
Herradura Legend (okay, I’ll actually sip this one because it tastes like bourbon)
Now for the recipe…
The Cadillac Margarita
Ingredients:
1 ½ oz fresh lime juice
1 oz agave
2 ½ oz tequila, repasado or anejo
½ oz Grand Mariner
Splash of Mezcal on top, optional
Garnish with salt, lime or be spicy and add chamoy and/or tajin
How to Make the Cadillac:
1. Cut and squeeze lime juice. You’ll need 1 1/2 oz. Pour into shaker.
2. Measure agave, tequila, and Grand Mariner and pour into the shaker.
3. Add some ice to the shaker and shake, shake, shake!
4. Grab your favorite margarita glass and add salt, chammoy, or tajin to the rim if you like that kind of thing. Add ice to the glass and strain the margarita from the shaker.
5. Top with Mezcal and enjoy!
